Language support
Did you have that cool friend in high school who could randomly speak multiple languages? "Oui maman, je serai à la maison pour le dîner". So cool. So chique. So cultured.
Copilot is like that friend, times 10. It can speak many languages, to help your users in (for the most part) whatever language they prefer.
Officially supported languages
Copiot officially supports the following languages, ranked by number of global speakers (according to ChatGPT):
- English
- Spanish
- Russian
- Portuguese

Specifying which language to use
The default language
The default language is the language that Copilot will respond with automatically. To set this, head to Dashboard -> Copilot -> Settings, open the Personality section, and then describe how you wish Copilot to respond as plain text in the Custom instructions.
Here are some examples that you can copy and share with Copilot to instantly level it up to a natural "born" polyglot:
- Specific language
- Any language
- Both languages
Always respond to questions in Spanish.
Always respond in the same language that a user asks you a question.
When responding to questions, always respond twice,
once in the same language as the user, and once in english.
Customizing the language
Per the above, you can request that Copilot respond in the language that the user provides. The user can also select their preferred language from within Copilot itself, or you can set it for them to inherit from whatever language they are using in the rest of your product via our SDK.
